We have been providing mechanical and electrical (M&E) services for over 30 years. We operate as a business-to-business company, and this involves engineering design, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and project management. Our work ranges from small and straightforward tasks to large and complex business-ready projects. Our experience spans a range of industries including fast-moving consumer goods (FCMG), food and beverage, brewing and distilling, waste, pharmaceutical, chemical and industrial.

Our team consists of highly skilled engineers, with a wide range of experience, including design engineers, industrial and commercial electricians, fabricators, welders, pipefitters and mechanical engineers. They are qualified, competent, and aware of the requirements needed to successfully carry out assigned tasks on a project.

Vogal Group have a long tradition of providing engineering apprenticeships and many current engineers started their careers with a Vogal Group apprenticeship. We’ve trained hundreds of apprentices, and we offer one of the most successful engineering apprenticeship programmes in the Peterborough region. We are proud of our history, our contribution to UK manufacturing and the development of engineering apprentices.

An apprenticeship with Vogal Group means you will be employed and trained by us. You will also attend a local college on day release. Our apprenticeships provide the opportunity to train for a skilled role and gain a nationally recognised qualification. We aim to recruit at least 4 apprentices each year.

Excellent Training Provided

You will receive training that equips you to qualify as a certified mechanical or electrical engineer. Tuition is also provided at one of our local colleges. You will gain recognised qualifications and have excellent long-term employment prospects.

Apprenticeships are a great way to gain qualifications while earning. Apprentices work towards nationally recognised qualifications, generally at college, but sometimes through E-learning. The rest of their time is spent developing technical skills and ‘on-the-job’ training. Our apprenticeships are aimed at those who are looking for a career in engineering. They are designed with the intention of developing skilled mechanical and electrical engineers essential for the future of our business. You will be trained to help improve our customers manufacturing facilities.

You will be provided with a comprehensive learning package, which includes practical skills and technical knowledge. You will work alongside qualified engineers and be involved in practical, hands-on work right from the start, covering the wide variety of engineering work we do. Training is provided in our workshop, as well as attending college and working under supervision on our customers’ sites. When working on a site, your team leader will help you to master increasingly complex tasks. All our team leaders have benefitted from completing an apprenticeship themselves, so they know the importance of quality on-the-job training.

Your duties involve learning mechanical or electrical engineering skills and processes whilst under the instruction of engineers in the workplace and at College. You will develop abilities from verbal instructions and drawings and maintain a logbook, recording projects that have been undertaken and the skills learned. Emphasis is placed on a ‘no defects, right first time’ culture and our approach is to develop engineers who do a brilliant job for our customers.

Career Progression Opportunities

All our engineering managers and supervisors started their careers as apprentices. After gaining experience on customer sites, they have progressed into leadership roles. We recruit apprentices with the potential for long-term career progression, not just a four-year programme.

That’s why we look for people with the talent and desire to become our future supervisors and managers. We also have the flexibility that allows people to prosper if they would prefer to continue working on site. The number of years it will take to complete your apprenticeship will vary depending on your previous experience and qualifications. It could take up to four years to complete.

Once you have completed your apprenticeship and as you gain experience, your career opportunities and earning potential can improve. You might decide to:

  • Remain working within the industry as a mechanical or electrical engineer.
  • Continue your professional development, for example, become multi-skilled.
  • Work towards achieving professional registration as an Engineering or ICT Technician, Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer.

Where You’ll Work

You will work on our customer sites, within the commercial and industrial manufacturing sector. These can be a physically demanding environments and include factories, manufacturing plants and warehouses.

You will be based at our Peterborough Head Office. However, you will only visit our office to collect materials, meet colleagues or attend training. Your day-to-day work will be on our customer sites across the UK. However, these are usually within 2 hours travel from Peterborough.

We aim to provide a first-rate apprenticeship training pathway, including college attendance, on-the-job training, and the creation of an excellent environment for your training to take place in. We encourage our qualified engineers to mentor our apprentices and teach you the skills required to help you develop.

You will regularly work in potentially hazardous environments, where there are risks from factors such as working at height, and you must be very health and safety conscious. We will provide the training and guidance that ensures you work safely.
