Vogal Design & Planning Service

Well-rounded Design solutions

Supporting your M&E projects with practical engineering designs

Vogal Group are Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) engineering specialists, and a key component of this activity is our in-house engineering design services. Working together, our engineering and design teams have the experience and knowledge to provide you with a complete turnkey M&E project solution. In delivering an M&E project, we work with you to provide an engineering design package that meets your project requirements. Our support is not limited to the start of your project, a design engineer is available throughout your project; from feasibility to final installation, liaising with you and our M&E project management team throughout the project.

We use AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS to explore design ideas, visualise design concepts through rendering, simulate how a design performs in-service and draft the engineering design package documentation. Our engineering design service is offered as a standalone contract or as part of a turnkey M&E project solution.

To help reduce risk and improve the certainty of a successful project we can work with you to complete a feasibility study and / or produce a conceptual design. A feasibility study helps to define the scope of your M&E project. This leads to a clear understanding of your project needs, considering technical, economic, compliance, safety and environmental aspects. This information helps you determine whether or not to proceed with the project and what format it should take. Taking place at the start of the design process, a conceptual design can be created to transform your design ideas or concept into visual media, specifically outlining the forms and functions of your concept. This allows you to test and validate ideas before you commit to a project and helps you avoid costly mistakes and wasted time.

We offer an electrical design service, for all commercial and industrial electrical design applications, providing schematic drawings, complete with calculations.

Further details are provided below about our engineering design capability, which includes:

  • Engineering design package.
  • Mechanical design.
  • Electrical design.
  • 2D CAD and 3D CAD.
  • 3D scanning.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

From feasibility studies to turnkey M&E projects, including project management, installation, maintenance labour support, and pre-demolition, we make sure theengineering design, mechanical and electrical sides of our business work together, to deliver your M&E projects efficiently and safely.

Project assurance with 3D scanning of your site

We provide 3D scanning of your site, that is then converted to design drawings utilising the latest 3D scanning software. We can provide a digital walkthrough of your site, helping you to visually comprehend the impact of your proposed project.

What we do:

  • 3D Scanning

We use 3D scanning to digitise your site to quickly create three-dimensional, measured documentation, with detailed images. This allows for a better understanding of a complex site. This activity involves on-site 3D scanning, data processing, and the creation of customer-specific drawings and arrangements. Our approach ensures tailored, precise data that adds value by improving the overall accuracy and usability of the engineering design package. This supports your decision making during the lifecycle of your M&E project.

  • Engineering Design Packages

Our in-house, engineering design team develops design packages tailored to your M&E project needs. They draw and / or model an engineering design to the detail you require. This includes producing more accurate and complex designs, with 3D CAD, that would be difficult to replicate with traditional 2D CAD designs. Our engineering design support is integral to every phase of a project’s life cycle, from the initial concept and tendering through to the final installation. This ensures a consistent approach, with our designers working with you throughout your project.

We frequently start a project with an engineering design site survey, as it helps gather essential information and requirements to inform the design phase. This helps you and our engineers and designers make informed decisions and meet project objectives while managing constraints and risks effectively. These surveys vary depending on the specific needs and complexities of an M&E project. We often utilise reverse engineering to recreate an installation to a matching, or improved, specification. Rather than being designed from scratch, reverse engineering allows us to understand the original design intent, learn from the existing design for your new design project, improve an installation, or convert paper design drawings into digital 3D CAD data. Visualisations show the project infrastructure as a finished project. They are used to allow your project stakeholders to communicate ideas, evaluate designs, identify potential issues, and make informed decisions before your installation begins.

Our engineering design team working with our M&E project team are skilled in CAD drafting, project planning, estimating, document management and control. The engineering design documentation vary for each project, dependant on your needs but typically consist of a project description, project specifications, significant design decisions, diagrams of final project implementation, bill of materials, assembly information, and maintenance information.

  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a computational technique that is used to simulate and analyse the behaviour of structures and systems under various operating conditions and constraints. Finite Element Analysis is a powerful tool that helps us better understand how a structure or system will perform in the real world. This better understanding of the behaviour of your structures, under different loading conditions, helps us to optimise our designs for factors such as strength, reliability, durability, simplicity, weight, cost and safety. Our in-house designed steelwork is typically subject to static stress analysis.

  • 2D CAD and 3D CAD

We use industry standard Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools, AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS, to produce our M&E project engineering design packages and communicate the designs to you and our engineers. This includes 2D CAD layout concept drawings to represent the new installation, through to complete 3D CAD assemblies and renders. 3D CAD is used to ensure our engineering designs are optimised to meet your requirements. The SOLIDWORKS Certification Program tests competency and efficiency in the software. It's the only industry recognised SOLIDWORKS accreditation and our design engineers gain this certification as part of their professional development.

We transform your conceptual designs into accurate, detailed drawings, while ensuring compliance with ISO standards. Our engineering design deliverables ensure format flexibility and data integrity through industry standard digital transitions.
